Away (flee this land)

from Land of the Long Grey Cloud (2010) by Mark Harrington

about

This is another one where the original lyrics were eventually removed. The story goes like this - theres a boy walking along a desolate coastline, theres a heavy sky and a dark sort of atmosphere . . .

'Why do the birds fall from the sky?
and why do the pale fish, wide-eyed
rise up to the surface of the sea?

They lie here, strewn across the beach
their mouths move in some sort of song or speech that I can't understand . . .

'Away! Flee this land before its too late' . . .'

As he goes on there is a dawning awareness of the massive extent of the destruction and a final realization that it was he himself who brought it all about – an innocent accident?
Perhaps not.
